Street Counts – Western Sydney Nepean Blue Mountains District

The NSW Premier has committed to Reducing Street Homelessness as one of the 14 priorities – ‘Reduce street homelessness across NSW by 50 per cent by 2025’.

The NSW Government has also committed to work towards zero rough sleeping in NSW by 2030.

To obtain a baseline understanding of the number of homeless people in Western Sydney Nepean Blue Mountains District, the Department of Communities (DCJ) will be leading and participating in Street Counts every year until 2025.

The aim of the Street Count is to collect accurate data on the number of people sleeping rough and the number of people experiencing secondary homelessness in WSNBM, in order to measure any progress towards reducing homelessness and the impact of current initiatives targeting the issue.

Street Counts were conducted in the following locations on the night of Monday 17 February 2020, into the early hours of Tuesday 18 February 2020:

· Blacktown

· Mount Druitt

· Penrith

· Parramatta – DCJ supporting the City of Parramatta council who is leading its 10th Homelessness Street Count

· Cumberland – DCJ supporting City of Cumberland council who is leading its 1st Homelessness Street Count
